There's another coincidence surrounding the project that Squintz only fully appreciated while looking back at his catalogue. He was born on 09/08/98, and from an early stage the number 98 became connected to his identity. Nuen Ain't Gang carried the 98 Gang identity, tying the project directly to the year he was born and the generation from which his story emerged.

At 23, Squintz began consciously thinking about the idea of creating a square within his music — something complete, balanced and connected to his own numbers. The release dates that followed were deliberately chosen to create a pattern around his birthday.

His first project, Nuen Ain't Gang, was released on 08/08/21. SQ Grime followed on 09/08/22. Y Not? arrived on 08/08/23. Learn From Pain followed on 09/08/24. Taken together, the dates create: 8-9-8-9.

The pattern was intentional. Squintz knew he was building towards something. What he didn't know was what the completion of that idea would eventually look like — or that Not Old Or New would arrive when he was 28 years old.

It's another example of something that runs throughout the project: you don't always understand the shape of your life while you're living it. Sometimes you have to reach the other side, turn around, and realise that the pieces were forming a pattern all along.
