Squintz

Squintz is a grime MC, recording artist, producer and sound engineer from North London, building SQ MOB as both a creative identity and a home for his music.

His relationship with grime goes beyond simply making songs. It is a culture, a sound and a way of expressing himself that has shaped his approach to music from the beginning. Squintz has always been drawn to the rawness of grime — the energy of the set, the pressure of the clash, the freedom of the freestyle and the character that comes from making music without needing to polish away everything that makes it real.

As an artist, he has developed his own approach around that foundation: direct writing, unconventional ideas, humour, reflection and a willingness to experiment without losing the grime identity underneath it.

His work has also extended beyond his own music. Through SQ MOB, he has worked with hundreds of artists as a recording and mixing engineer, while developing his own studio environment and creative services. That experience has given him an understanding of music from both sides of the microphone — as the person creating the record and the person helping someone else bring theirs to life.

Over the years, Squintz has released projects including Nuen Ain't Gang, SQ Grime, Y Not? and Learn From Pain, building a catalogue that documents different stages of his development rather than trying to stay in one place.

SQ MOB represents that wider vision.

It is a space for music, engineering, visuals, releases and collaboration — built around the idea that an artist should be able to develop their sound and identity in one place.

From recording and mixing to mastering, video and creative direction, SQ MOB is an extension of Squintz's work as an independent artist.

The music remains at the centre.

NOT OLD OR NEW is the latest chapter.

Created entirely with producer NJ, the project captures one particular period of Squintz's evolution through 15 tracks. It brings together grime influences, refixes, original ideas and different sides of his writing and personality without trying to fit neatly into one category.

Rather than presenting a finished version of who Squintz is, the project documents where he is now.
